About me

I am an award-winning singer, songwriter and piano slayer. I have perfect pitch and have always played by ear. I started formal piano lessons at age 5, the time the photograph below was taken. I was classically-trained to Grade VIII with the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM). I also have a distinction in Music ‘O’ level. My training provided me with excellent technical skill and very sound (punny, that!) music theory but my strengths lie in improvisation, songwriting and playing by ear. I am self-taught in guitar and started when I was ten, but piano is my first, my last, my everything.

I just love playing and making music. I cannot think of anything I enjoy more. It is an obsession and passion. I have been playing individually, in big bands, in duos and trios since I was in University in venues large and small. In 2005 I formed a 5-piece band called SATSUMA. We performed songs that I wrote. The songs are modern and eclectic, with strong urban grooves and lyrics. We played headlining gigs at top London venues such as: The Marquee Club, The Troubadour Club, The Water Rats, The Betsey Trotwood, Plan B and Clockwork.

In 2006 I won Fifth Prize — (out of 850 entrants) in the 1-MIC (Music Industry Charts) UK Award for my original song ‘Celebrity’.

In 2011 I started making recordings of my piano tutorials. They are all about learning quickly. We don’t have time.

Satsuma Music’s Method of Teaching Piano is teaching you songs straightaway.
